Quarterback Dru Brown makes his Ottawa REDBLACKS debut. He spent parts of the last three seasons (2021-2023) with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before being dealt to Ottawa this past off-season.
Sam Linebacker Adarius Pickett makes his Ottawa REDBLACKS debut. The UCLA product enters his 4th season in the CFL, spending time with the Montréal Alouettes (21-22) and Toronto Argonauts (2023).
Dominique Rhymes makes his return to the REDBLACKS tonight after spending the last four years (2020-2023) with the BC Lions. Rhymes spent his first three seasons in Ottawa with the REDBLACKS. He put up 1,578 yards in 36 games.
3 Keys to Success
- Win the trenches on offence. Easily the biggest question mark for the team entering the season is how well will the offensive lineman play this year. The unit last year gave up a league worse 71 sacks in 18 games, that is 3.94 sacks per game. Dontae Bull, the 2023 2nd overall pick gets the start at Right Tackle tonight.
- Bend – Don’t break. That needs to be the mentality for the Secondary tonight. The REDBLACKS have already started facing injury trouble early this year. Brandin Dandridge and Justin Howell missed camp and both start the season on the Injury List. Money Hunter was also on the Injury report this week. Tobias Harris is making his first career start tonight. Kenny Lawler (WR) is out but Winnipeg still have Wolitarsky, Demski and Schoen available.
- DeVonte Dedmon. His explosiveness and vision on the field during Punt and Kick Returns will give Ottawa the ability to flip field position throughout tonights game. Ontop of his returning duties, Dedmon is also listed as the back up running back tonight and could see snaps if Ryquell Armstead is unavailable as he is a Game-Time-Decision.
