The Buffalo Bills were clobbered by the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday night football in week five action by a score of 42-16. Despite the terrible looking scoreline, the Bills will be okay.
The Titans dominated this game right from the beginning. It started with an interception on a ball that hit Andre Roberts right in the chest and ended with a Titans touchdown off a fumble by Roberts on a kickoff. Nothing went right for the Bills.
But it wasn’t just in the game that things didn’t go right. The whole week leading up to this game was a complete disaster.
As everyone knows by now, the Titans had a COVID-19 outbreak in the locker room and couldn’t shake it in time for the game against the Bills to be played on it’s normally scheduled Sunday afternoon slot. This forced the Bills to focus on two teams. They didn’t know who they would be playing. It could have been the Titans, or if there was another positive case for Tennessee, they could have been playing the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, I don’t want to make excuses for the Bills because the defence hasn’t been good enough this season, but it’s hard not to think about the injuries that the Bills had on both sides of the football.
On the defensive side, we’re talking about the Bills two best players. Tre’Davious White and Matt Millano both missed this football game as did Levi Wallace who Bills fans will argue doesn’t matter, but when your two top cornerbacks miss the game, it’s hard to move forward.
On the offensive side of things, missing John Brown and Zack Moss hurt. Brown is a difference-maker for the offence and the Bills really could have used the power running style that Moss brings to the table against this Titans team.
The offence struggled in this game, and Josh Allen didn’t look amazing especially when he threw one of the worst interceptions you will see this year. The being said, this game was not the fault of Allen.
The key thing for the Bills is going to be figuring out how to get the defence to a respectable level. It’s clear the defence isn’t as good this year as it was last, but getting it to the point where fans can be confident the opposition isn’t going to score every time they get the ball would be nice.
The Bills now have a big test Monday night with the Chiefs. They need to get healthy and regroup. Winning this game would go a long way, but losing would give the media just another reason to hate on the Bills.
