One of the biggest names in CFL Free Agency is off the board and back in the same city he has called home for his entire time in the league. The touchdown monster known as Jake Wieneke has been locked up by the Montreal Alouettes on a one-year contract with a value of $160,000 according to Dave Naylor.
The South Dakota State alum has spent the past two seasons with the Alouettes where he has become known for his big-play ability and his nose for the endzone. In those two seasons, Wieneke has 97 receptions with 1,467 yards and a whopping 19 touchdowns. One of his most iconic touchdowns came when he made a diving catch in Edmonton early last season and stood up and juked out the defender before walking into the endzone.

Compared to other teams around the league, the Alouettes have been relatively quiet leading up to Free Agency, but they have been sneaky with some major re-signings. Wieneke joins players like Mario Alford, Eugene Lewis, and Nick Usher as the latest to be brought back to the bird’s nest.

There is still some work for the Alouettes to do before their team is done considering many of their pending free agents are still unsigned, but the foundation has been laid for them to be competitive in the 2022 season. They likely would like to get B.J. Cunningham back for another season, but bringing Wieneke back is massive from the Als.
